PLAINFIELD CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF HENDRICKS COUNTY TO HOLD DEDICATION CEREMONY FOR NEWLY-BUILT HOME
Plainfield Christian Church and Habitat for Humanity of Hendricks County will be holding a house dedication at 3406 Campbell Street in Plainfield on Saturday, July 9 at 4:00 p.m. The new homeowners are the Mitchell family, which includes: Beth Mitchell and her son, Nicholas Weatherford. This home was built by Plainfield Christian Church, with the church funding the project and providing most of the volunteer laborers. The project was unique because the home was built by the church, for one of its own church members. Mitchell not only belongs to Plainfield Christian Church; she also works there as a custodian.
Habitat for Humanity of Hendricks County builds decent, affordable homes with qualified families in need. As a Habitat partner family, the Mitchell's completed 400 hours to the building of their home and attending educational workshops. They will now pay a 0% mortgage with a lower monthly payment. Partner families of Habitat for Humanity of Hendricks County must meet specific criteria to qualify for Habitat home ownership.
All funding sources for the Hendricks County affiliate come from local donations: church groups, civic organizations, corporations and individual donors. Habitat for Humanity of Hendricks County builds its homes using a volunteer workforce that is responsible for approximately 70% of the construction. The other 30% comes from skilled tradesman. Even though the homes are built largely by volunteers, they exceed the standards set for much of today's housing.
The community is invited to attend the house dedication to see the work that Habitat for Humanity does with families in need.
"The relief I feel in having a safe home is more than anyone can imagine. Now my son will be able to grow up in a house that is truly ours, where he can ride his bike and skateboard in the neighborhood without me being worried all of the time. It is really Plainfield Christian Church and their love for the Lord that I have to thank for this new home. We are also so grateful to Habitat for Humanity. They are a great organization and do so much to help families in our community," said Mitchell.
(QUOTE FROM DAVE VERHONIK HERE)
Funding for Habitat for Humanity of Hendricks County comes entirely from local sources. It is challenging for the organization to build a few homes a year, simply because the financing is not always available. Partnerships with churches, civic groups, corporations and individuals are all ways in which Habitat gains funding.
