HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF HENDRICKS COUNTY TO HOLD WOMEN'S BUILD.

A women's construction week will be held on behalf of Habitat for Humanity of Hendricks County May 2 through May 7 in Plainfield, IN. This annual event draws women from the entire county to help build an affordable home with a family in need.

The Women's build will take place at the Plainfield Habitat home currently under construction at 3406 Campbell Street, off the intersection of US 40W and Township Line Road. Habitat for Humanity of Hendricks County has openings on all days of the Women's Build, with the exception of Wednesdays, when a regular construction crew is already in place. Both women's groups and individuals are welcome to participate. Habitat strives for a group of approximately 10-12 women each day, an ideal number for construction supervisors to guide the building process.

The construction begins each day at 8:00 a.m., rain or shine. The event concludes at 5:00 p.m. Participants are asked to wear comfortable shoes and dress in clothing appropriate for the weather conditions. Tools will be supplied, although women are allowed to bring their own. The women will also need to supply their own lunch and drinks. Due to safety regulations, only volunteers 16 years of age or older are allowed on Habitat job sites.

Although women volunteers help out on Habitat construction projects throughout the year, the Women's Build is a unique opportunity to work solely with women from Hendricks County.

"Some of our best work is done during our annual Women's Build. Women really come out to help us and they have a lot of fun too," said Craig Brighton, Executive Director of the local Habitat affiliate.

The home these women will be building is sponsored by Plainfield Christian Church. The church has provided the financing for this construction, as well as a regular crew of volunteers to carry the project through for the remainder of the building process.

Habitat for Humanity of Hendricks County builds approximately four homes a year. As an independent affiliate of Habitat International, their funding comes from local sources, with a goal to increase their construction projects as their fundraising efforts and donors grow larger.
